Yes, we did it – we made it through the day! Yes, there were many challenges this year, all caused by the rain, but we every volunteer was flexible and adjusted to those circumstances. Despite the adversity, I only saw smiles and only heard ‘Yes, will do’ when asked to make changes to plans already in place to accommodate the weather and the schools. Amazing, just simply amazing, the group of volunteers that we had this year!
There were 26 schools scheduled to compete at the tournament. West Covina HS notified me early in the morning and dropped out because of the impending rain. The other 25 schools who came to THHS, all competed; some even in drizzle and rain. There were some hiccups with equipment, but the show went well all things considered.
It is hard to express my enormous appreciation for all of the Volunteers – Current Music Boosters, their family and friends, Alumni Music Boosters, Alumni Students and NHS students – who helped out at the 19th Annual Tournament in the Hills. Volunteers started showing up at 5:00am and the last ones leaving just before 1:00am. Considering the adverse conditions and the two weather delays we faced, all I heard from other school’s staff and the judges was their heartfelt compliments, once again, on how well-run and smooth our tournament was this year! Everyone still had smiles on their faces, even though they were cold and wet. Once again, TITH was a success! This could only happen because of all the hard work and dedication from each and every one of you! This is a first-class organization and I am very proud to be a part of such a wonder group of people! THANK YOU!!!
I rarely single out names in my emails, but this is a deserved exception. I want to send a big, heart-felt THANK YOU to Walt & Mary Howard for their 10 years of dedication to the music program. They were the Tournament Co-Chairs for five of those years and I truly would have been lost without them. Not only have they been there for TITH and the music program in general, they are great people and I will sorely miss their friendship in the coming years! I just wish we still get to see their wonderful smiles and uplifting spirits in the years to come. So, thank you guys for all the wonderful memories and support for the last decade.
Sincerest Thanks and Happy Holidays,
Quincy Nguyen
